Competent summer entertainment for all audiences, although under its more superficial parody skin of the world of video games and blockbuster cinema it contains a simple and silly romantic comedy. The director of Night at the Museum is true to himself. And Ryan Reynolds is equally true to himself (although it is somewhat repetitive of routines that we already know from other feature films). From the meeting of the two comes a white comedy for the whole family in which everyone does what is expected of him serving a fable that has its touch of eighties tone.
As I have said in its true nature it is a romantic comedy. A very hipster rom-com all over, to be clear. Even in jokes. Joke for joke and cameo for cameo. The world of the video game, and its routines, characteristics, fauna, etc., are the hook to hook the spectators to a fable that at times simulates drinking from the inspiration of The Truman Show (obvious the wink of the sea as a border and above all the first 40 minutes of the film), but it draws on the Matrix formulawhen it suits him (with the ability to serve his purposes, it must be said) and put in a display of spectacular action sequences.
He also walks through the jokes to the superhero cinema, the blockbuster action cinema and even the wink to Bizarro, Superman’s alter-ego, when it seems appropriate. And all this, as a whole, makes it a very entertaining hobby, so there is little point in faulting it because it achieves what it set out to do, although some of us think that with that material it could have been proposed to be a little less hipster and well thinking and something more vitriolic and cane.
